PYE Global Training: Developing Creative Leaders for Transformative Youthwork

PYE Global trainings develop facilitators skilled at leading transformative, creativity-based, multicultural, and inter-generational programs for youth. We call our facilitators social artists because the work involves artfully bringing out the gifts and talents of everyone in your program, youth and adults alike.

Being an effective social artist is as much about who you are as what you do. Artfully leading groups requires our full presence as well as finely honed skills in group dynamics, communication, and cultural understanding. Mastering the craft requires ongoing training and practice.

PYE Global trainings are for youth workers, teachers, artists, health care workers, social workers, and counselors. Our training methods also benefit people who want to bring greater depth and vibrancy to programs for adults. The skills learned will help you transform current programs, develop new programs, or simply bring new power and effectiveness into your leadership.

PYE Global trainings provide professional and personal development, cutting edge creative practices, and connection to an international community for ongoing practice, learning, and support. The training process begins with an introduction to the principles and practices of the Creative Community Model, followed by an entry-level training in group facilitation. These workshops set the stage for more in-depth training.

PYE Global trainers are highly effective practitioners with many years of training and experience working with diverse groups of youth and adults. Our trainers have also received extensive training and mentoring in the art of training.

PYE Global provides training through our Northwest Training Institute in the Pacific Northwest region of North America. We also bring our training modules to groups across the world. We are currently in Uganda, South Africa, and England and will soon be in India, Scotland, and Brazil. We respond to invitations anywhere.

To find practicum opportunities check out the PYE Global partners who lead youth programs based on Creative Community methods. Most camp-based programs hire arts staff and welcome a full range of volunteers. When working with groups in new locations, we provide facilitation training and then collaborate with local groups to put on programs for youth. The youth programs give trainees opportunities for hands-on learning and coaching.

We invite you to take this journey alongside a worldwide fellowship of practitioners that are committed to making positive social change through providing transformative programs for young people.

The Training Programs

Arts-Based Facilitation I: Basic Training for Social Artists

Our basic training in the Creative Community Model introduces you to ways to employ arts-based practices in groups of youth or adults. The program is based on the premise that we are all creative and when we express ourselves through the arts, we develop vitality and personal power. You don’t have to be a professional artist to use all kinds of arts in your work: storytelling, poetry, creative writing, theater games, dance, music, visual arts and more. You will learn:

  • A framework for arts-based facilitation
  • How to sequence activities for full participation
  • Easy-to-lead activities from a range of art forms
  • Strategies for employing multiple art forms in youth empowerment and performance
  • Ways to ignite your own creativity

This training offers a chance for you to connect with other artists, facilitators and youth workers. As adults work together discovering their own creative capacities on behalf of serving youth, all kinds of new ideas get sparked. Collaborations occur between agencies. New programs get started. And life-long collegial friendships develop with other social artists. Check it out!

In Seattle, WA and Vancouver, BC you can find a similar training called “Creative Facilitation 1: Express Yourself” offered by our partner the Power of Hope.
